Robert Choate successfully implemented a comprehensive user interface (UI) redesign for the Cyber Common Operating Picture (CyberCOP) application. While there is technically only one CyberCOP application, it currently exists in two environments due to the transition to the cloud. The Cloud-Based Instance (Unclassified Azure) is used for developing new features and currently displays simulated data. The classified version is a non-cloud-based production instance, where the backend infrastructure differs, though the UI remains the same.
The redesigned UI empowers decision-makers with real-time, mission-critical insights into cyber risks affecting Naval operations, missions, and groups. By providing an intuitive interface with the ability to drill down into specific details, leaders can quickly assess vulnerabilities, identify threats, and make informed decisions to mitigate risks effectively.
This enhancement has significantly improved situational awareness, enabling a proactive approach to cybersecurity. With a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of cyber risks, Naval forces can implement stronger defensive measures, enhance mission resilience, and maintain a superior security posture in an evolving threat landscape.
Robert played a critical role in developing and maintaining the data flow processes that provide essential data to the Constat Rate Infusion (CRI) Calculator and CyberCOP. While both applications share similar but divergent codebases, their data flows differ significantly between the IL5 cloud-based environment and the Core Suite, which operates on traditional infrastructure.
The development and maintenance of these data flows have been instrumental in ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of critical cyber risk data to CyberCOP and the CRI Calculator. By building and documenting scalable IL5 data flow processes, Robert helped streamline data ingestion in cloud environments. Additionally, his expertise in Core Suite has improved system reliability and enabled more efficient troubleshooting, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous data availability.
These efforts have significantly enhanced the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of cyber risk assessments for Navy operations. The IL5 cloud-native data flows provide a scalable, low-maintenance solution, while ongoing improvements in Core Suite ensure mission-critical data remains accessible despite its complex infrastructure. By strengthening data flow processes, Robert contributed to a more robust, responsive, and actionable cyber risk intelligence framework, ultimately supporting stronger cybersecurity decision-making across Naval operations.
Robert is an exceptional developer with outstanding technical skills, but can improve his briefing skills. Briefing the development team for practice and enhancing team collaboration prior to briefing the Navy commander would ensure clearer communication of project updates.
